Why Upstream Straight Pipe Run Matters for Blue White Flow Meters

Blue White flow meters measure flow in pipes from DN15 up to DN150 in many water and chemical feed applications. Paddle wheel and ultrasonic models sample flow at a point or across a short path. Use these values as a starting point for clean liquids in PN10 to PN16 lines. All values are in pipe diameters DN. Multiply by the nominal bore to get the length in mm.


Paddle wheel Blue White flow meters such as F-300 and F-400 series. Install 10x DN straight upstream and 5x DN downstream. For DN25, that means 250 mm upstream and 125 mm downstream. For DN80, use 800 mm upstream and 400 mm downstream. If a pump or control valve is upstream, increase to 15x DN.

Common Field Installation Errors We See

Error one. The meter is installed right after a pump. Pump discharge flow is highly unsteady and may contain air. Install a straightening section or move the meter downstream.
