Annubar Flow Meter Manual: Technical Reference Library Programming Guidelines
Quick Answer: Silver Automation Instruments supplies Annubar-type averaging pitot tube flow meters with installation manuals, wiring drawings, and HART or Modbus programming guides. To configure the transmitter, set the pipe inner diameter, K factor, differential pressure range, temperature input, pressure input, and flow unit. Send the pipe size, fluid, pressure in bar, temperature in °C, and flow range for a quote.
This page covers the Annubar flow meter manual structure, technical reference library files, and programming guidelines we use for steam, air, water, and gas service. It is written for plant engineers and procurement teams in Southeast Asia, Oceania, Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East.
What the Annubar Flow Meter Manual Covers
The manual is not one document. It is a set of technical files for probe installation, transmitter setup, wiring, and troubleshooting.
Field technicians often skip the full flow theory and go straight to the commissioning section.
In practice, the manual has to answer three questions. How do you mount the probe? How do you wire the transmitter? How do you set the flow parameters?
A standard manual from Silver Automation Instruments includes dimensional drawings for DN50 to DN1200 lines. It also includes a wiring table for 4-20 mA HART, RS485 Modbus, and pulse outputs. For hazardous areas, the files include ATEX Zone 1 and Zone 2 temperature limits and cable gland requirements.
Technical Reference Library for Field Engineers
The technical reference library stores CAD drawings, pressure loss charts, material certificates, and Modbus register maps. We have seen many projects in Vietnam and Nigeria where the EPC team needs these files before the purchase order is released. Because of that, we keep the library ready in PDF and DWG format.
A typical stack for a steam line includes the probe drawing, the orifice calculation sheet, the ISO 5167 calculation notes, and the Modbus register map. For compressed air service, the reference library adds a leak test report and a calibration certificate for the DP transmitter.
The library also records line size, inner diameter, upstream and downstream straight run, and tapping orientation. This data helps the site team match the actual pipe to the configuration sheet.
Programming Guidelines for the DP Transmitter
The programming workflow depends on the transmitter brand and protocol. We work with 4-20 mA HART and RS485 Modbus.
A typical HART setup uses eight parameters. Set the engineering unit to kg/h, m³/h, or Nm³/h. Enter the pipe inner diameter in mm. Enter the K factor from the probe nameplate. Enter the differential pressure range in kPa. Enter the process temperature input if a PT100 is installed. Enter the process pressure input for density compensation. Set the low flow cut off to a value that removes noise at zero flow. Set the damping to 1 to 5 seconds.
Most engineers skip this part on air and water lines. For steam, do not skip it. Saturated steam density changes a lot with pressure. We have seen a 12 percent flow error on a steam header in Indonesia because the pressure input was left at default.
If you use Modbus RTU, the register map in the technical reference library lists the addresses for flow, temperature, pressure, and totalizer. Use function code 04 for reading. Use function code 06 for writing a single register. Set the baud rate to 9600 or 19200. The default slave ID is 1. On site, change the slave ID if more than one device is on the bus.
For liquid service with viscosity above 50 cP, tell the Silver Automation Instruments sales team before ordering. The K factor changes at low Reynolds number. We can adjust the calculation in the factory or supply a wet calibration certificate. The averaging pitot tube

Installation Checks Before Programming
Start with the mechanical installation. The probe tip must sit at the centerline of the pipe. The upstream straight run should be at least 10D after a single elbow. After a control valve, use 25D to 30D.
For tight installations, we can supply a flow conditioner or a dual averaging probe.
Do not program the transmitter before checking the tapping direction. A reversed probe on a gas line can show negative flow or a zero reading.
On steam lines, the impulse lines must be filled with condensate. The transmitter should be below the pipe taps. For liquid lines, vent the transmitter to remove air. For gas lines, drain the impulse lines to remove liquid. These simple steps prevent most start-up issues.
Configuration Examples from Customer Sites
A paint manufacturer in Southeast Asia uses our Annubar-type meter on a DN100 compressed air header. The transmitter is set to 0 to 2.5 kPa differential pressure range, 1 to 5 seconds damping, and 28 °C reference temperature. The output goes to a paperless recorder through 4-20 mA. The site team reads the flow in m³/h and totalizes consumption for energy management.
A desalination plant in the Middle East uses the same probe on a DN300 seawater line. The flow range is 80 to 800 m³/h. The transmitter includes a PT100 input and a local display. The technical reference library helped the contractor wire the Modbus RTU to the plant DCS in two hours.
A dairy plant in Chile monitors steam at 8 bar and 175 °C. The flow rate is 1500 kg/h. Our team selected a DN50 probe and a DP transmitter with 0 to 10 kPa range. The manual includes a saturated steam density table. The table corrects the flow reading from the pressure input.
How to Order and Get the Manual Package
You do not need a full data sheet to request a quote. Send the pipe size, fluid, operating pressure in bar, temperature in °C, minimum and maximum flow, and the output signal. The sales team will return the probe model, transmitter range, manual package, and lead time. For a standard carbon steel air line, the lead time is often 7 to 10 working days.

FAQ: Annubar Flow Meter Manual and Programming
What is included in the Annubar flow meter manual? It includes installation drawings, wiring diagrams, configuration steps for HART and Modbus, and troubleshooting tables. Silver Automation Instruments also provides material certificates and pressure test reports.
Which parameters must be programmed first? Set the pipe inner diameter, K factor, differential pressure range, flow unit, temperature input, and pressure input. For air and water, flow unit and differential pressure range are the first two settings. For steam, pressure compensation must follow immediately.
Can I use an Annubar flow meter on a small pipe? The probe works best on DN50 and larger lines. On DN15 or DN25 lines, the blockage and pressure loss can be high. Silver Automation Instruments recommends a thermal mass flow meter or oval gear flow meter for very small line sizes.
What output options are available? Standard output is 4-20 mA HART. Optional outputs include RS485 Modbus RTU, pulse, and a relay for totalizing. The manual includes wiring for each output type.
Do you provide the programming files and register map? Yes. The technical reference library includes the Modbus register map, HART DD files for common hosts, and a configuration sheet. If you need the files before payment, ask the sales team for a redacted sample.
